town crier cries foul
A London town crier is furious after the BNP used his image on an election leaflet distributed across the country.
Peter Moore was bombarded with phone calls from colleagues and friends in a number of towns and cities after the far-right party used his photo to signify "our" traditional customs - which they believe are under threat from multicultural celebrations.
He told me: "I am furious and am now seeking legal advice. I am very proud to live in our multicultural society and think the BNP's racist policies are beyond contempt.
"The fact that my picture is now associated with their abhorrent leaflet has really angered me and I want people to know."
BNP spokesman Phil Edwards called the fuss - and I quote - "a pathetic load of bollocks". Obviously that didn't make it into the paper.
He added: "It could have been a Beefeater or Buckingham Palace. It wasn't our intention to represent this man as a member of the party. He shouldn't be worried.
"In fact, he should be proud to be on a leaflet promoting the indigenous culture of this country."
