I’ve spent my entire weekend in front of the computer, editing sound and images from my day on a canal boat on Friday, and putting them together into an audio slideshow. I’m actually REALLY pleased with what I’ve come out with and – perhaps because it was a purely personal exercise, or maybe just because it felt quite creative – feel a lot more satisfied than when I spend my weekends writing for pay.
I will hopefully find a way to post my slideshow online in the not-too-distant future. But always, I am amazingly grateful to my boaters – Leah and Peter – for sharing their lives with me in such a generous way.
I had never met these guys before Friday, but had left a note on their boat a couple of months back in the hope that they’d let me visit them and take some pictures. As luck would have it they were about to spend several weeks decamping to Leeds, and invited me to spend the day with them. So often this work is more about good luck and timing than anything else.
