whistling again

Manchester's "whistling tower" has piped up again.
I broke the story about Beetham Tower's persistent hum last April, when I was working at the North West Enquirer (RIP). The skyscraper - home to a Hilton hotel and 219 plush flats - emits a strange buzzing in certain wind conditions.
When the New Scientist followed up the subject, they described it like this: "On windy days, the air around the blade vibrates at a frequency of 250 to 260 hertz - close to middle C on a piano. People have variously described the sound as being like a flute or a UFO landing."
The noise - which wakes neighbours up, even through closed windows - was sorted for a while but has started up again, and I've written about it in the M.E.N.
I still haven't made it inside the tower but will be staying at the Hilton this weekend. I almost hope it does get windy so I can at least hear for myself the noise I have written so much about.
