who pulls the strings?

A message from Elizabeth Pascoe:

"Thank you very much both for the article, and re-confirmation that the local press sit on anything that criticises local government. How do they pull their strings?
"I get better coverage in the national press than locally, and not just the Telegraph, practically all of them (Private Eye, various professional magazines including AJ, House Beautiful, Yours, even the Metro mag on London Underground).
"I wonder what this lot is worth REALLY, and I don't mean in London, I mean right here.
Makes 'really worrying about climate change and so starting to behave differently' remonstrations look farcical.
"Maybe they intend to start when their pockets are well lined, as in stuffed so full no more can get in. Ask Jason Palmer (Cambridge Architectural Research) how much more damaging (in terms of greenhouse gases) new build is compared to refurb.
"Is government supposed to cause citizens permanent fear? And is it supposed to say 'we finally admit man-induced climate change, and yes of course building is about the most environmentally damaging thing we do' and carry on regardless. That is in addition to other social and heritage considerations.
"My heart aches that is the only way I can describe the feeling, and I have no choice but to keep on fighting this insanity, until death if that's what it takes, melodramatic as that may sound. "And damn all those 'in denial' or without the guts to tackle reality, even though they have more power than I do, who will drag the planet into hell.
"Recently a handful of people, who do not represent in any way the local community were in the local media "beseeching" that homes here better than their own (which have just been refurbished, I chose not to live in their street) be demolished.
"The real Kenny Fields community invited me to a 'full house' meeting to tell me they unanimously support us 'all the way'. That won't get printed for sure, when they write in and tell the truth.
"As if life isn't tough enough for most of us, we have to worry about this as well.
It'll soon look rough when the social tenants are paid to move out. How easy it is to destroy, makes man look so powerful. And how slow and gentle looks creation in comparison almost 'insignificant'.
"Again, thank you"
